About the project

A simpler way to read what you came for.

EbooksForFree is a chapter-level ebook library. Instead of downloading an entire book to get one useful section, you choose the chapters that matter and build an edition that fits you.

Why chapter-level?

The original library was built from large collections of public-domain writing. A single “book” there can contain dozens or hundreds of independent chapters: recipes, stories, practical guides, historical accounts, and reference material.

Most readers only need a slice. This rebuilt site treats every chapter as a first-class choice, so you can gather exactly what you want without carrying the rest.

When you download, the server assembles a standards-compliant EPUB 3 file with a cover, metadata, a table of contents, and clean typography. It should open in Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play Books, Calibre, and most other readers.

Free, always

No account, no checkout, no paywall. The library and the builder are open to everyone.

Mix any books

Combine chapters from different categories into a single personal ebook.

Real EPUB files

Not a PDF printout. Proper XHTML chapters, navigation, and metadata.

Public domain

The underlying writing comes from public-domain collections. Share and keep what you download.

How do I download a book?

Open any book, leave the chapters you want checked, and press “Download chapters (EPUB)”. The file is generated in your browser session and downloads immediately.

Can I combine chapters from different books?

Yes. On a book page, use “Add to my ebook”. Then open My ebook, add more books, and download everything as one EPUB.

Do I need an account?

No. Your selection is stored temporarily in your browser session. There is nothing to sign up for.

Will this work on my Kindle?

EPUB files work with Kindle via Send to Kindle, and with Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play Books, Calibre, and most other reading apps.

Where does the content come from?

The catalog is the original EbooksForFree library: a large collection of public-domain writing organized into topic books and chapters.
